China Fashion Week: ‘Haute Couture’ Wedding Dresses Grace the Ramp

Dressed in hues of red, golden and off-white, models donned exclusive wedding dresses, as they walked the ramp at the China Fashion Week in Beijing on Sunday. Models presented creations from designer Tsai Meiyue's Spring/Summer 2012 Wedding Dress Collection during the coveted fashion event.

A wide range of wedding gowns adorned with traditional Chinese embroidery in bright colors were put on show as the couture industry was taken by awe. Despite a stalled economic situation worldwide, China’s luxury market is growing and the country has become the world’s second-largest consumer of luxury goods, according to the 2011 World Luxury Association Blue Book survey.

Who Says Your Wedding Dress Has To Be Plain White?

Technorati 标签: ,

Ifaced facts a long time ago: I'm never going to be a fashion designer. Whatever that special something amazing is that the greats like Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, and Coco Chanel have, I just don't got it.

But I still love fashion. It inspires the things I wear and the things I display in my home as well as all of my work as a wedding dress and event designer.

Of course my love extends to wedding and bridal fashion, too. I've been designing weddings for over thirty years, so I've worked with a lot of brides. Designers have to know their clients, and, for me, that means knowing what trends my brides are excited about. What are the patterns, cuts, materials and embellishments they can't get enough of? Because if a bride loves a certain detail on her bridal  dress, she'll probably love it, or something similar, in her bouquets and table centerpieces and even on her invitations.

Naturally, I try and follow New York Bridal Fashion Week as closely as I can, and this last week I've fallen in love with so many of the fall 2012 designs. The new gowns are just that, gowns. They're big and beautiful with lots of texture and color. Simplicity is out, and I couldn't be happier!

I love that Vera Wang didn't shy away from drama. Her models walked the runway in beige, grey and even black dresses. But not one of them wore a white gown! Personally, I loved her grey and beige dresses with lace overlay and tulle the most. They're elegant and sophisticated without feeling familiar.

Vera wasn't the only designer who added some color to the catwalk, though. Pink was everywhere: JLM Couture, Anna Maier, Reem Acra, Anne Barge, Alfred Angelo and Ines Di Santo all showed off beautiful pink and blush-colored gowns.

As a designer I absolutely love color. Color makes weddings and every other special event feel more alive. Unfortunately, some brides are hesitant about incorporating too much color into their wedding day style and decor. But I'm hoping these colorful new wedding dresses will make them reconsider. After all, if you love color in your every day life, there's no reason you shouldn't have lots of color on your wedding day, too.

It was Reem Acra's collection, though, that truly spoke right to my heart; the new dresses are rich with embellishments! The gowns feature intricate beading, feathers, flowers, embroidered bodices, illusion sleeves and big, elaborate skirts. This collection doesn't take itself too seriously -- every dress feels whimsical and fun but also glamorous.

What I love most about these two trends -- color and embellishments -- is how easy they are to replicate. So although Vera Wang and Reem Acra, for example, are fabulous, you don't have to wear one of their gowns to get the look.

And if you love color but also love the idea of wearing that big white gown, you can do both! Consider asking your seamstress to sew your favorite colorful fabric to your wedding dress' crinoline petticoat; as you walk down the aisle everyone will catch glimpses of your favorite color beneath your long white gown. You could also sew a bright, colorful border to the outer edge of your dress. Or, attach a bright bow with long ribbons to your waist so that strips of color cascade down the back of your dress.

The same is true for embellishments. Feathers and fabric flowers, especially, are inexpensive and easy to work with; it only takes a few well-placed feathers to make a big statement.

I always ask my brides to show me their wedding dress; it's a great way for me to get an immediate sense of their style and how they envision their wedding day. If a bride's dress has some intricate beading, hints of color, bows, flowers, feathers, ribbons or unique textures, I try to incorporate a similar look and feel into my designs.

But you don't have to be a designer to pull this off.

Think about adding a few of these complementary details to your wedding invitation suite. What about a sparkly border, or using card stock that has a subtle shimmer? Or, use a wax seal on your envelopes in the shape of a feather, bow or the flower pattern on your wedding dress.

I love using these details in my table linens, too. If your wedding dress or wedding color palette features shades of pink, for example, look for linens with a soft pink sheen. If you're wearing a ribbon belt, think about adding a matching ribbon edge to your linens or the back of your reception chairs.

And if you're making your own bouquet, wrap your flowers in a matching ribbon or bow. You can even tuck sparkly beads or feathers between the greenery and flowers in your bouquet for a bit of unexpected glamour. For many more ways to incorporate feathers into your wedding day style check out my last post.

Kunling’s First Wedding Dress

Technorati 标签:

Mixed-mode Kunling tender age of 18, due to become the latest "J Girl" and the explosion of red. Recently, she was for the "1st" dedicated to wear a wedding dress  looks like Jay (Jay), Jupai advertising. It is reported that Shanghai Wedding Expo in November to find Kunling, inviting not only the high-priced, and willing to build a gold for her wedding, did not expect Kunling agent heard nothing after it turned down to ask, outside the grounds that "age, not suitable" However, Kun Ling is trying to pass the first time the beautiful Phi white appearance, and Jay left to get married that day. Why not put the soft mode Kunling wear a wedding dress of the "1st" dedicated to Jay? Because she was stressed she was the first marriage, she is not "left the grass," is typical "grass."
Why Kunling do not have to do? Because the stimulation by the public opinion. She fell in love with Jay had been the world as a model of the cow eating grass, because they almost 14 years of age. Jay is very beautiful, because the cow to chew on the tender grass is a blessing. The 18-year-old grass Kunling very contented. Readers can Kunling recently broke the news to be had with the 21-year-old "Lollipop two Army" Li Quan gone out. Li Quan admits that said: "Her (Kunling) 16 years old, I am 18 years old, but was later scolded quite badly brokerage firm, broke up." Li Quan said he was in the "model Lollipop" to know " I love Blackie "recording Kunling, the two began about watching movies, naturally talked about love, but love in less than three months, they stop because both brokers and mortality. It seems, Kunling although only 18 years old, is not pure, and she has been eating through March, and Jay are not eating the tender grass, but the others had left chewing grass. To this end, Jay has been derided as nothing but a blue and white porcelain plates containing leftovers.
Now Kunling turned down price advertising, the first time she left Jay Phi beautiful wedding, but announced that she is tender grass, even the wedding did not pass through, let her cherish the value of Jay. Can a woman's purity is the line, rather than the packaging, if you love the history of complex, long ago is not the girl, and Phi is also more than a disguised white wedding dress. A woman really pure "first", love is not over men, not slept, not of history. We are now afraid to use virgin blood to verify the woman's chastity and the "first", because modern society, women are not "closed, the second door step", but also work as models and actors work, and sometimes action is also very large, we do not want only "hymen" theory, but at least there should be no love history, no history of bed. Kunling not say that her "first" first love is love, and the other wearing a wedding dress with fake "first" is a guilty conscience, it also proved she is one of the remaining grass. In fact, in modern society, a virgin who is not a luxury not a virgin, or should some be honest, loaded with pseudo superfluous.
Kunling even left a grass, is still fresh compared to 35 of Jay, Jay Royal under the command of more than a woman, how can he have the right to find fault with others? Kunling stomach should put the heart, Jay will marry you, he did not care you are left grass, can you disguise the tender grass might just let him off-putting.

John Edward's Daughter Cate Marries: See Her Wedding Dress!

Cate, 29, beamed in a classic, strapless ivory wedding dress with gathered detail at the hip; she wore her hair down and loose, accessorized with a pearl necklace and matching bracelet.

Although John Edwards walked his daughter down the aisle, the former Presidential candidate -- who fathered a child with mistress Rielle Hunter  -- successfully avoided all cameras during the ceremony. Her 13-year-old sister, Emma Claire, was maid of honor, while their brother, Jack, 11, was a groomsman.

Cate and Upham, a surgical fellow in Washington, D.C., got engaged two weeks prior to Elizabeth Edward's Dec. 7, 2010 passing after a long battle with breast cancer.

"I feel so lucky to have shared that joy with her, to have had the time to leaf through bridal magazines together and talk about the wedding," Cate wrote in an article for Glamour magazine this month. "Even though I've had to plan the wedding without her, I feel blessed because, in her last weeks, she told me she was comforted to know I'd set forth on my own life path, with someone she loved and respected, and with whom she truly believed I would be happy."

Two Bridal Gown Styles For An Autumn Ceremony

Technorati 标签: ,

Most weddings often happen through the spring or summer months, but an autumn ceremony can hold an allure all its own. The air is turning crisp as the leaves are altering colors. You are able to also count on much less of a opportunity of rain than inside the spring, and cooler temperatures than the blazing summer heat.

One more benefit of an autumn wedding is that you might have a much better chance of booking your dream venue, hiring the top photographer, and producing sure your invitees do not have previous engagements. Fewer individuals are finding married in the fall, so you are not competing with as several brides for all the resources you should put on the best wedding.

Needless to say, you are also going to want a suitable wedding gown for an autumnal ceremony. Here are a couple of wonderful styles that can make your day all of the much more unique.

Chiffon Gown with Beaded Waist

This gorgeous Ivory-colored gown will stand out against a backdrop of dazzling fall colors. It has a sweetheart neckline atop the exquisitely fitted bodice. Knife pleating dazzles the edge, which will slim your figure and boost your silhouette.

The skirt of this gown has a beaded waistband that wraps around the hips. Chiffon fabric is intricately cut to drape from the waist around the side of the dress and about the back.

Considering that this dress exposes the shoulders, you might want to pair it having a white scarf, a light matching jacket, or even a lengthy, heavy veil. You do not need to wear it all day; however it is good to keep one thing handy in case your reception evening gets chilly.

Cap Sleeved Satin Side-Draped A-Line Gown

The cap sleeves and high neckline of this delightful style will add a bit of extra warmth on a crisp fall afternoon. It capabilities a sweetheart bodice that’s emblazoned with gorgeously detailed beaded lace to add an extra dash of texture.

This gown also has satin fabric that drapes down the side, at the same time as pick-up details all across the skirt. This may flatter each diverse body form. The chapel train will glide effortlessly behind you, dazzling your invitees and keeping your legs good and warm!

Available in ivory or white color choices, this dynamic providing will keep you comfy and cozy all through your big day.

When selecting a wedding gown, it really is critical not to get frustrated if you do not find the best one proper off the bat. Take your time and attempt on a variety of diverse styles. Be patient. Whenever you find the perfect fit, you will know it right away.

New York Lace in Downtown Taunton offers experience as well as selection

In the heart of downtown Taunton sits one of the premier stops for brides-to-be looking for that special wedding dress : New York Lace Store. Established in 1907, this family business on Main Street offers the largest selection of bridal gowns in New England and has more than a century of experience serving brides from across the northeast.

“We’re a 104-year-old business,” said owner Dolores Milho.  “Service makes a business continue in this type of business, so it’s also a sign of what we do.”

With more than 1,000 wedding gowns ranging in price from $700 to $5,000, New York Lace is sure to have a dress that suits the style and fits the budget of every bride.  The salon also keeps up with the latest

fashion trends and carries gowns from top designers, including Maggie Sottero, Sottero and Midgley, Marisa, Eve of Milady, and Casablanca Bridal, with Maggie Sottero as the best-selling designer due to its extensive line across a wide range of budgets.

“Our consultants are very educated, fashion conscious, and used to working with different body types,” said Milho.

In season

All designers carry a number of different styles of gowns, and Milho and her staff at New York Lace Store certainly know what’s “in” for brides this season.

Generally, the red carpet dictates the latest trends, as designers see what the celebrities are wearing and adapt it to wedding dresses. This season, following the hugely popular royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in England, lace has been making a comeback. Strapless dresses have also become increasingly popular.

“Strapless is very strong,” said Milho. “It’s been strong for a long time because it’s a comfortable dress and brides can move their arms comfortably.”

Popular skirt details that have been making appearances at local weddings include puckered, ruche, and ruffled;  trumpet skirts have also become a popular style.

“Trumpet skirts are ... very form-fitting to show your shape,” Milho said.

For necklines, sweetheart has become most common, and for color, ivory has become the popular color choice in general.  For destination weddings, however, white is definitely the way to go, and soft fabrics like chiffon work well with a white gown.

Making decisions

In general, there are two different approaches to choosing a wedding gown: Some brides want a more sophisticated look that accentuates their shape, while others want a more traditional appearance.

New York Lace caters to both; and as if choosing the dress isn't enough of a decision on its own, brides are also provided with a large collection of accessories the store carries.  Popular accessories include tiaras, veils, jewelry, and beaded belts; the latter have become especially popular recently.

“Everything is about bling,” said Milho.

For brides looking for that special dress, it’s important not to let the price tag make the decision for you and to pick a dress that you’ll be happy with, according to Milho.

“Your wedding is a day that’s truly your day,” said Milho “It’s the only day in life that’s just for you.”

“If wondering if you like the dress or not,” Milho went on to explain, “move on to the next one.  There are thousands of dresses.  You’ll know whether it’s the dress or not.  As soon as you put on the dress and look in that mirror, you’ll know it’s the right dress.”

Other services

New York Lace stores dresses until the wedding day, fully insures all dresses, and takes care of all alterations on the premises. The store also offers Kiara Salon and Spa to customers, whose talented staff can take care of all your beauty needs.

Brides looking to make a viewing appointment with New York Lace should call a week to two in advance, and plan on 1 to 1 1/2 hours for the viewing and selecting.

For a first visit, Milho recommends a small, intimate group of people.

“First visits should be with the most sincere people who will give most sincere answer,” explained Milho. “We live in a world of many opinions.  The most important opinion should come from the people who know you the best.”

Seizing The Cinderella Moment

When a friend first mentioned she was looking for a Sabyasachi Mukherjee outfit to wear at her cousin’s wedding in December, the immediate suspicion was she may have won a lottery or inherited a fortune.

Shyamal Banerjee/Mint

Shyamal Banerjee/Mint

The friend is a working professional and it was hard to imagine she would shell out Rs. 60,000 for a designer outfit. Embarrassed, she quickly clarified that she planned to rent a Sabyasachi piece and had been searching some new websites that offered the service.

Clearly, consumers now have the option to rent dresses created by premier Indian designers. A handful of online and offline stores are offering such services although consumers have to go to their brick and mortar outlets for trials and fitting.

To enjoy your Cinderella moment, glass slippers et al (before you return to your original garments), you can now rent the chic stuff for between Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 10,000, or more. Secretwardrobe.in, started six months ago by Mumbai-based Jessica Gupta Nagpal, a graduate from the National Institute of Design, offers dresses from Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Wendell Rodricks, Kavita Bhartia and Ranna Gill. In Indian ethnic wear, Neerja Wadhera of Rent A Party Dress in Delhi stocks designer sarees and lehengas. She does not keep salwar kameez as alterations in this style of clothing show. Among others, she has Manish Malhotra, Satya Paul and Anita Dongre on offer.

Sanroh Creations in Delhi does not stock designer labels but offers its own fancy wardrobe for rent. It is happy to recreate and rent any dress that you may want replicated.

If the friend, looking for a Sabyasachi dress, is any indication, the profile of consumers looking for rented dresses is intriguing. A fashionable homemaker, 40, also confessed to surfing the Net recently looking for designer dresses to rent for no specific occasion. She is not on the Page 3 party circuit. Nor is she a kitty club member. But she is impeccably turned out for shopping, children’s school functions, funerals and religious occasions.

The biggest demand, however, comes from brides-to-be looking for a D-Day costume that’s heavy, glitzy and costs a bomb. Nagpal admits that although she launched the service with western wear, she was flooded with requests for bridal wear and had no option but to start stocking wedding dresses. The names of all clients are best-kept secrets and consumers sporting the rented attires never admit to wearing them.

The notion of renting designer dresses is pegged on aspiration. Users and potential users of the service say it is a practical idea. The money saved by renting instead of buying a costly dress can be invested or used elsewhere, especially during a wedding. Given their hefty price tags, renting allows consumers the access to some of the designer labels they cannot otherwise afford.

However, in India, the rent-a-dress business is still nascent. The lack of choice in designer labels is a dampener. Wadhera says she cannot keep unlimited stock, it is a fledgling business. Sanroh Creations’ Jatinder Kumar, however, feels the concept will take off in the next three to four years and the early mover advantage will help. But the real question is why do people need to rent expensive dresses? Is it just peer pressure?

Psychiatrist Sanjay Chugh sees different thought processes among people who avail of the service. Wedding wear is expensive and usually exclusive, “something you cannot wear on an ordinary day”, so renting makes sense to some. It may also make sense if your social life involves meeting the same people over and over again.

And for some, it could be the result of peer pressure or social desire of wanting to be among a particular league, he says. Sometimes one’s social perception— how one is perceived by others—becomes an important or perhaps the only way to feel secure. It makes people feel confident. This would mostly happen when our own personal or inner view of self is fragile or negative. Due to this, one constantly runs outward to seek attention, to feel wanted. If this need is very strong and borders on being harmful, it might blur a person’s rational thinking and force her to act in ways that might appear ridiculous, Chugh says. Sooner or later, a tendency to continue to behave in such a manner could make life more stressful. One might be pushing her limits just to fit in or be a part of the social crowd.

Label behind Middleton wedding dress gets kinky

Technorati 标签: ,

PARIS — The ivory silk wedding dress that Kate Middleton chose for her date with history was Alexander McQueen, but it was hard to imagine the demure now-Duchess of Cambridge sporting the S&M-infused black teddy, the head-enveloping lace-and-leather face masks or any of the other extreme looks that came down the label’s runway on Tuesday.

The house was built on just such harsh beauty, but following the February 2010 suicide of its namesake and founder, it appeared as if his successor would steer the label in a softer, more consensual direction. For her debut as creative director, Sarah Burton delivered a collection that loosened the screws on McQueen’s punishingly nipped waists and smoothed out some of his harshest angles.

And then there was the dress, the wedding gown that saw Middleton transformed from commoner into royalty — the single most coveted assignment in recent fashion history. Kept under the strictest of wraps up until Middleton alighted at Westminster Abbey on April 29 — before some two billion spectators worldwide — the simple-lined, long-sleeve concoction became an instant legend and unleashed a bridal wave of copycats.

But the Duchess of Cambridge has notoriously low-key style, and trying to imagine her in anything from the spring-summer 2012 collection was absurd. After all, what would she do with her luscious locks — not to mention her face — in one of those lacy pantyhose head masks that topped off all the looks? (Covered in pearls or sporting a metal beard made out of what appeared to be straight pins, they were like the world’s chicest and most twisted Mexican lucha libre masks.)

With the collection, Burton’s third as creative director, she tightened the screws again. Suits with flippy skirts and shrunken jackets were cinched at the waist with oversized belts with kinky lace-up detailing. Evening gowns entirely covered in pearls or mother-or pearl scales were ravishing, but looked about as conformable as straitjackets.

Don't take your mother': Oscar de la Renta's unlikely advice for brides-to-be

Technorati 标签: ,

For most brides-to-be, choosing a wedding dress is an intimate bonding for her and the women closest to her.

But according to Oscar de la Renta, your mother is the last person you should help choose your gown.

The veteran fashion designer, 79, made the comment to an audience member on the Martha Stewart show today.

Unusual advice: Oscar de la Renta warned a bride NOT to shop for gowns with her mother on the on Martha Stewart show today

She had asked an expert panel that included Ms Stewart, Mr de la Renta and Martha Stewart Weddings editorial director Darcy Miller who she should take with her when choosing a bridal dress.

But to both the audience and the panel's surprise, he promptly replied: 'Not with your mother!'

Ms Miller was stunned at the suggestion, exclaiming: That is so mean! My mother would have been so upset... My kids are going shopping with me when they get married.'

Tricky question: An audience member and her fiancé sparked the debate during a Q&A session

But, as Mr de la Renta, explained, there was good reason for his controversial suggestion.

More often than not, he said, a mother's taste is at odds with her daughter's and her nostalgia for her own wedding day can often get in the way of choosing the right gown.

'What your mother has to understand is that this is the most important day of your life, that this is something you have been dreaming, thinking of for a long time,' he said.

'It’s not her day, it is your day, and your mother should be very proud.'

Once explained, Ms Miller was more inclined to agree with her fellow panellist.

'I think it’s a personal decision,' she conceded.  'It depends on your relationship, what you think of your mother’s fashion taste.'

In any case, she added: 'Don’t take too many people.'

Is it alright to go all white?

Technorati 标签: ,

Of course, white is the traditional color for brides, but many of them are surrounding themselves with white way beyond a head-to-toe look. It's more like left to right and floor to ceiling, and everything in between.

"I do love an all-white wedding," gushes fashion designer Amsale Aberra, who uses her first name as her label. "I think it can be very beautiful."

But, in the next breath, Aberra says the look leaves room for error, with white-wearing bridesmaids and flower girls, white flowers, white tablecloths and white candles all potentially stealing the bride's thunder. "You don't want to need to wear the veil the whole day just to be identified as the bride," she says.

It takes a woman with a strong personality and sense of self to remain the belle of the ball, and she needs to embrace little tools to help her shine -- things like a beaded waistband on her bridal gown or choosing a wedding dress that's just a slightly different shade of white than everyone else's, adds celebrity wedding planner David Tutera.

Kate Middleton pulled it off at the big British royal wedding this spring, Tutera said, but even so, her sister, Pippa Middleton, got her fair share of attention in her white cowl-neck gown.

"I think the royal wedding will have an influence on brides for years, even decades, to come, and Pippa Middleton's white Alexander McQueen bridesmaid dress will most certainly be credited with sparking a trend," says Darcy Miller, editorial director of Martha Stewart Weddings. She notes, however, that it's a longtime tradition in Britain to have the wedding party wear white.

"It's very striking," Miller adds, noting that Beyonce and Kim Kardashian also opted for the color -- or non-color -- scheme.

Miller says the look is sophisticated, too -- but more versatile than one might think. "The classic look of an all-white wedding is thought of as very traditional, but the clean, sophisticated palette can easily be transformed for modern venues so it is suitable for all types of brides. Whether you are getting married on the beach, at a country club, at a ski lodge or on a city rooftop, the look will translate, so you really can't go wrong."

Tutera, who hosts WeTV's "My Fair Wedding," still isn't fully sold. When white is done right, there's nothing better, he says, but there's still more of a chance that something could go wrong.

There are hundreds of shades of white, from bright, blueish diamond white to a creamy, more yellowed eggshell white, he notes. The color scheme of the wedding should all be in the same family, although not 100 percent matching, either.

Aberra encourages the warmer, richer shades, perhaps the eggshell, ivory or champagne. "That metallic white -- that's not flattering to almost anybody. A more natural white has a more pearl feel to it, it's not harsh. I'd stay away from a harsh white, especially in the daytime, which will just look brighter and brighter."

Seems like a lot of detail for a bride to keep track of, but Manhattan-based photographer Christian Oth says the results can be worth it.

"It's an established fact that brides look great in white -- it might even be why they do it! When you have a bunch of bridesmaids all dressed in white, that's a beautiful visual thing," Oth says.

He'd much rather see the parade of white coming at him than the bridal parties of a few decades ago, with the bridesmaids in pouffy-sleeve, fuchsia dresses and the groomsmen wearing ties to match. "Those typical bridesmaids' dresses are very hard to photograph well," Oth adds.

And the different shades of white that are apparent to the naked eye probably won't show up in pictures, he says.

Still, a little hint of contrast color does work well; Oth suggests white floral bouquets that have visible green stems.

Miller agrees that it's the small details that are key with an all-white wedding. Fabrics and textures will create the depth, she says.

She ticks off suggestions, including bouquets of white peonies paired with a cluster of dahlias, white orchids and snowberry branches, tied with satin and lace.

She likes white flowers on the table, but also suggests whitewashed papier-mache fruit piled on a cake stand and trimmed with silver millinery leaves.

White works on the menu if you serve hors d'oeuvres during the cocktail hour made with seafood such as scallops, yellowtail or crabmeat; veggies like cauliflower and parsnips; and even pasta.

The one place a bride and groom shouldn't see white -- unless they specifically request it -- is in the crowd, the experts say, with Miller saying the "common consensus" is that only the bride, or bridal party, wears white unless the invitation says otherwise.

Tutera says he recently worked with a bride for a year to find her perfect gown, but was upstaged by a guest. "This guest wore all white. She stood out like a sore thumb. You had to ask: What was that guest thinking?"
